July 7 through Sunday July 15, save 10-50% on all sandals and flip-flops at Sole (1033 NW Couch). We don’t endorse wearing flip-flops anywhere but the pool deck or the beach, so in letting you know about this sale, we’ll just pretend that you are buying them for your vacation and turn a blind eye when you turn up on the sidewalk in flip-flops and jeans. Find labels Jeffrey Campbell, Two Lips, Sam Edelman, Nicole, Report, and more.
Fun fact: flip-flop synonyms include zories, go-aheads, thongs, sandals, and if you were in Hawaii, you might call them slippers.
Love this a video of the making of a pair of Prada shoes. For favorite moment, it’s either right in the beginning with the cute older gent choosing where on the hide to place the pattern pieces or the extended shot of the blowdrying of black patent boots-on-a-stick (metal legforms).
You can also watch the making of a Prada bag.
And you know that if you’re inspired after watching to have and to hold a pair of Prada shoes, you’ll head to Mario’s (833 SW Broadway).

Oh, Una (2802 SE Ankeny), what perfect timing. Summer wants nothing but dresses. And if anyone can rock Coven in the city, it’s us. From today, June 26 through Saturday June 30, every stitch of clothing in Una is marked down 30%. But it’s awfully difficult to choose because among Giovanna Parolari’s brilliantly edited selection you’ll find Hengst, Vena Cava, Clu, Chan Luu, and Portland-based Jess Beebe’s line, Linea among many others.
While you’re there, take inspiration from Giovanna’s little garden out front of the shop because with every purchase from Una, you can then take your receipt next door to Artemisia Garden and Nursery and get 10% off plants.

Through June 30, when you make any purchase at the Pearl District retailers listed below, you’ll receive a card that gives you 20% off one item at any of the listed shops.
Sole, Bubble Boutique, Nolita, Physical Element, Lexidog, Pearl Health Center, Olive Shoes, Pearl Retriever, Relish, Ecru Modern Stationer, Cheeky B, Bella Moda Designs, Shoefly and Le Train Bleu.

Stopped in at Sofada yesterday, Alice Dobson’s boutique featuring her line of the same name plus lovely jewelry to complete the look. As one woman tried on the bodice of a dress Dobson was custom fitting as a wedding outfit, another woman sat in a comfy chair by the window as Dobson’s assistant stitched on the sewing machine in one corner of the little pale pink shop. Two other women stopped in; one chatted briefly with statuesque Dobson about minor alterations on a Sofada skirt she’d recently purchased and loved. It was Grand Central Station in the midst of Dobson’s cheerful, wearable designs.
Like more than one of Portland’s more interesting little shops, this one is slightly off the beaten path (not unlike Foundation Garments on NE Alberta). It’s not in the middle of nowhere, but it’s not downtown either. The Beaumont neighborhood, NE Fremont in the upper 30s to 40s boasts enough shopping that it’s worth a little look. And Sofada clearly has fans coming again and again.

Garnish (1524 NE Alberta) launches a series of monthly trunk shows featuring local designers with the work of Amanda Horton’s Allium Designs. This, on Tuesday next, June 26 at 5:00 PM. While you’re there, check out owner Erica Platt’s latest collection (also under the name Garnish).

When fashion designer and fashion writer Elizabeth Dye met jewelry designer and retail buyer for Mimi & Lena, Joy Cohen, they wrote the book on smart modern retail with their boutique, The English Dept., bringing cool independent lines to town to hang on the rails beside their own work. That was two years ago that The English Dept. opened on NW 23rd. Now they’re moving to Portland’s design neighborhood, the West End of downtown with neighbors like Canoe, the Ace Hotel, and Odessa nearby as well as Skylab, Intelligent Design, and makelike. Beginning July 3, find The English Dept. at 1124 SW Alder with goods from Development, Built By Wendy, and we can’t wait for Eley Kishimoto (see above). Best of all, from June 22-30, you’ll find 50% off all goods at the current location at 724 NW 23rd.

This Friday, June 22 from 4-8 PM, Carla Mink is throwing a party at her sweet little shop Mink Boutique (4314 SE Hawthorne). As our friend Charlotte put it, this is the shop where you love everything in it and can actually come home with some super cute looks without emptying your pocket book. During the party, find snacks and drinks plus 20% off all tops, jewelry, and handbags for the evening. If you haven’t ventured to Mink Boutique yet, this is a great reason to do it. We’ll see you there Friday.

There’s a summer sale on now at the Pearl District’s #1 spot for hard-to-find independent lines with a low-key chic vibe. Le Train Bleu (1822 NW Overton) is the online go-to for lines like Erotokritos, Lover, and Vena Cava, and Portland is lucky enough to have the real world boutique right here.
